An unforgettable experience

tommyrcline

During the spring of 2024, I had the incredible privilege of being an intern at the Hospitality House and I cannot be more grateful for the people I got to work with and the experiences I had while working there. Each and every employee at the Hospitality House was kind and welcoming, and never once did I feel excluded.

Going into the internship I had no idea what to expect or what kind of work I would be doing. I had some apprehensions, but regardless I knew to keep an open mind. What I found was an experience unlike anything I had ever done before. My worldview has changed completely after working spending 15 weeks with the Hospitality House, and I learned more about the world of housing and food insecurity than any classroom could teach.

While I was working in every area during my time, the two areas I focused the most on were with the on-site therapists and the facilities manager. Working with the on-site therapists allowed me to develop my professional goals immensely and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to work alongside them. My career path has been cemented, and it due in no small part to the work I did with them. Additionally, I worked with the facilities managers on a regualr basis. Pictured is the Rock Haven facility, a facility we frequented and worked to make better. Speaking with clients here and at the main facility while working with the facilities managers allowed me to learn much about the world and housing insecurity. Getting to work with the facilities managers helped me learn more about the logistics and inner workings of the House in a way I would not have gotten to otherwise, and I am very grateful for my time with them.

My time at the Hospitality House was very well spent, and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity they gave me. I will look back on the time I spent with them fondly, and will carry the lessons I learned from them into the future
